Here are answers to some common questions about Snapguide.

What is Snapguide?

Snapguide, is a free iOS app and web service for those that want to create and share step-by-step “how to guides”. We host easy to understand instructions for a wide array of topics including cooking, gardening, crafts, repairs, do-it-yourself projects, fashion tips, entertaining and more. Everyone is welcome to create their own guides, so that they can share their passions and expertise with the Snapguide community.

How does it work?

Let's say you know how to bake a delicious cake or fix a fence and you want to share your process with others. Using Snapguide, you can use pictures, videos, and text to create a step-by-step guide that you can publish and send out to friends. You can also use Snapguide to connect with people who share your interests and explore other how-to guides that show you something new.

How much does Snapguide cost to use?

Snapguide is free!

How do I Sign Up?

There are three ways. The quickest options are to connect an existing Facebook or Twitter account. However, if that's not your thing, you can create a Snapguide account using your email address.

Who owns my content?

Your content is owned by you. We are honored you're sharing your accomplishments with us, and we appreciate you agreeing to license your content for us to use. But the content you create belongs to you, and we will always respect that!

How do I create a guide?

You can either create guides on the web, or install our free iOS application, which works on most modern iOS devices (iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch). Check out the Snapguide Team profile, for detailed steps on creating a guide on iPhone, iPad, and the web.

How do I view a guide?

Guides can be viewed on and are formatted to look great whether you’re on a tablet, mobile phone, or desktop browser. If you have an iPhone, iPad or iPod touch, you can download our app and view guides on there as well.

Can I edit a guide?

Yes! To edit a guide, head to your profile and tap the blue pencil. Add steps, change text, or do anything else you need, and then select publish to make your changes public.

How do I embed a guide on my site?

  1. Head to the web version of the guide and click the Embed button next to the Print button.

  2. Decide which guide size you would like to display by clicking Small, Medium or Large.

  3. Decide which highlight color you would like to display by clicking the highlight color square and choosing from the color range.

  4. Once you’ve chosen both the guide size and highlight color, copy and paste the embed code onto your website.

Can I embed a guide on

Yes! There are two ways to embed a guide on One way is to copy and paste the Snapguide URL into a new Wordpress post. The other way is to create a shortcode and paste that shortcode into a new Wordpress post.

I am having trouble adding photos or videos to my guide. How do I fix this?

On your iPhone, iPad or iPod, make sure the app has access to your camera roll. To do this, head to Settings, then Privacy, then Photos. Turn the toggle to "On" for Snapguide and you will now be able to upload photos from your camera roll. If your video is over a minute, you can trim the video within the app – video steps cannot be longer than a minute. If you load a photo or video to your guide and it doesn’t appear, delete the step and try loading it again. Make sure you have an internet connection when adding photos.

On the web, make sure the images you load are JPEG files. Currently, it is not possible to add videos on the web.

What’s the best image size for guide photos?

Image processing is optimized to work with photos taken and uploaded from the Snapguide application’s built in camera.

If you would like to capture photos for your guide outside of the Snapguide application, follow these guidelines for the best results:

  • Always put the most important element of your photo in the center of your frame.

  • Ensure image has a 4:3 or 3:4 aspect ratio.

  • Image should have a pixel size equal to or larger than 2048x1536 (for landscape) or 1536x2048 (for portrait)

Why are my photos sometimes cropped when I upload them into a guide?

We display guide images across many different devices and formats. When we are presented an image in a size that does not fit the above aspect ratio, we often resize the image using an “aspect fill” technique. This technique lets us fill any rectangle with an image by scaling the image until one image dimension matches the rectangle dimension. We, then, crop the image from the center. This is why it is important to always compose your images with your most element in the center of your frame.

Can I create a set of guides?

Not yet but we love the idea!

How do I delete my guide?

Careful, once a guide is deleted, it’s gone forever! Below are the steps to delete a guide on iPhone, iPod, iPad and the web.

On your iPhone or iPod, to delete a guide, sign in and then head to your profile. There, you’ll be able to see your published guides. Swipe the guide you’d like to delete from right to left, and tap the red delete button.

On your iPad, to delete a guide, sign in and then head to your profile, go to your published guides, and tap edit. You will see a red button appear next to your guide, tap that then tap the red delete button on the right.

On the web, to delete a guide, sign in and then head to your profile and click the blue edit button. Click on the three dots next to your photo at the top, and select delete guide.

Can I make a Private guide on Snapguide?

Not yet. We definitely like the idea and might support this in the future.

What browsers do you support for guide creation on the web?

Guide-making works best on the latest versions of Chrome and Safari, but we also currently support the latest versions of IE 10, IE 11, and Firefox.

How do I report a guide or person on the app?

While we review and moderate content to ensure that it’s appropriate for the site, we also appreciate feedback from the community. In the app, you can report someone on their profile page. You can also flag inappropriate content on the cover of a guide.

Why isn't my iOS device supported?

We try to support as many devices as possible. We support iOS 6.0 and above. The devices we have tested that work include the: iPhone 4, iPhone 4s, iPhone 5, iPhone 5s, iPad 2, iPad 3, iPad 4, iPad Air, iPad mini, iPad mini with Retina display, iPod Touch 4th and 5th generation. If you have one of these devices and it doesn't work with Snapguide please try updating the Operating System on your device.

Where's the Android/Windows Mobile Phone/etc version?

If only there were more hours in the day! Right now we’re focused on improving our iOS version but we’d love to support more platforms and will do our best to build them in the future. For now, hopefully you can enjoy creating and discovering guides on the web.

What happens if I Sign Up with, or connect, my Facebook or Twitter accounts?

If you Sign Up with, or connect, your Facebook or Twitter accounts, Snapguide will automatically try to find your friends on the service. If you sign up with Facebook we will ask for permission to post to your timeline when you like and publish guides. You can manage what Snapguide posts to your timeline under settings.

I don’t want my profile showing up on google. Is there a way I can change this?

Yes. On the app, head to Settings and then Privacy. Then turn the toggle to off for “Search Engine Visibility”. You can also do this on the web by signing in and heading to settings. Scroll down, and you will see an option to turn off search engine visibility.

I'm having a technical problem, who do I talk to?

For the quickest response, head to the app and select Settings, Help, and then Feedback. If you are in the web editor, you will see a black feedback button. You can also always send us an email at and we will get back to you as quickly as possible.
